Huddur ( Somali spelling Xuddur ; also Hudur , Hodur , Oddur or Huddur Hadama ) is a city in southern Somalia , not far from the border with Ethiopia . It is the capital of the Bakool administrative region . According to a calculation, around 12,000 inhabitants belong mainly to the Hadame clan , who belong to the Sagaal- Rahanweyn .

Uddur means something like “settlement” or “center”, and a local saying goes that “there is no way around Huddur and the grave”. Huddur owes its importance to its water resources, which make it an oasis and watering station for cattle.

When the administrative structure of Somalia was changed in 1974 under Siad Barre , Huddur became the capital of the new Bakool region.

During the civil war , the city was occupied from 1995 by the militias of Mohammed Farah Aidid and his successor, Hussein Mohammed Farah . These were ousted by the Rahanweyn resistance army in 1998 .

In recent years, there has been a contest between the Somali interim government and the Islamist al-Shabaab for Huddur . In October 2008, troops loyal to the government took back the city of al-Shabaab. In February 2009, al-Shabaab fighters again ousted the pro-government militias. In May of the same year there were unknown attacks on the police station and the strip of land controlled by al-Shabaab.
