Hudern
The Hudern is a birding technical term . The protection of nestlings from the weather (cold, rain, excessive heat) by the breeding birds by sheltering their offspring under their wings or by warming and protecting them in their belly plumage is called hudding .
The phrase someone under his wing to take should look similar to the Hudern.
Another meaning is the habit of chickens , to bathe in the sand and dust .
