Huernia plowesii forms stem succulent , upright or ascending, clump-forming shoots that are up to 3 cm high. In cross-section they are 4-ribbed and densely covered with pointed warts. The flowers are single, point outwards and sit on a relatively short, max. 1 cm long stem. The sepals measure 5 to 6 × 2 mm. The corolla has a diameter of 2.5 to 3.5 cm. It is dark purple-brown on the inside, the tips cream-colored with irregular, chestnut-brown spots. The inside pentagonal crown tube has a diameter of about 6 mm. The annulus is about 5 mm wide; it is purple-red on the inside, dark red on the outside and merges into dark red spots on a cream-colored background towards the edge. The crown lobes are approximately triangular, slightly wider than long and apically pointed. They are splayed out, basal bare and slightly hairy towards the apex.
