Hugh Wake

Hugh Wake († before December 18, 1241 ) was an English nobleman.

Hugh Wake was a son of Baldwin Wake and his wife Isabel Briwere. After his father's death in 1213, he inherited his estates, including the Barony of Bourne in Lincolnshire . In 1239 he was constable of the royal Scarborough Castle . In 1240 he took part in the barons' crusade to Palestine , where he died the following year.

Wake had married Joan de Stuteville , daughter of Nicholas de Stuteville II and Devorguilla of Galloway , before May 29, 1229 . After the death of her sister in 1235 and her uncle Eustace de Stuteville in 1241, his wife finally became her father's sole heir. He had several children with her, including:

  • Sir Nicholas Wake
  • Sir Hugh Wake († 1315)
  • Baldwin Wake (around 1238-1282)

After his death, his widow married Hugh Bigod .
