Hugo Boy Monachus (* in the 14th century probably in Dordrecht ; † in the 15th century in the Netherlands ) was a Dutch composer of the late Middle Ages .

Live and act

Musicological research has not yet been able to find anything about the life of Hugo Boy monachus; his birth and death dates have also remained unknown. It was active around the year 1400.

Some pieces of music have come down to us from him, written in the ballad style of the 14th century. One of them is the Dutch three-part song “Genade Venus, vrouwe tzart”. His compositions are kept in one of the so-called Dutch court fragments (which also contains the work of Martinus Fabri ) in the manuscript “MS membr. 2720 ​​“of the University of Leiden . Only the melody of the song mentioned has been completely preserved.
