Life

Nothing is known about Hugo's origins, presumably in 991 he was ordained by the Archbishop of Magdeburg, Giselher, for the office of Bishop of Zeitz. He stayed for the dedication of the cathedral on October 16, 992 in Halberstadt . His patron King Otto III was also there. present, who gave him a present on March 31, 995 with the rest of the Slavic Gaus Ponzowa (also: Puozowa), the former Burgward Krossen, for his tireless service in the development of the Slavic territories for the German Empire .

In July he took part in a diocese synod in Hildesheim with Bernward von Hildesheim , accompanied the emperor 1000 on his procession to Gnesen , took part in Rome on January 13, 1001 and in Todi on December 27, 1001 in the synods convened by the emperor. Hugo II appeared for the last time on July 25, 1002 in Merseburg at the homage of Heinrich II. To the East Franconian king, since his successor Hildeward can be proven since 1003, it can be assumed that he died in 1002.

On January 11, 1002 in a document issued in Paterna by Emperor Otto III. Kapellan Hugo is not considered by recent research to be the Bishop of Zeitz, but rather the Chancellor of the same name Heinrich II. for Italy and later Bishop of Parma , even if this identity is not really certain.
