The Huis van der Graeff is a city palace in Amsterdam . It is located in the Gouden Bocht .

history

In 1665, the then Amsterdam regent Andries de Graeff acquired the property in today's Herengracht No. 446. In 1672 the house named after his family was completed. It was three-story and originally adorned on the gable with an alliance coat of arms of the De Graeff - Bicker van Swieten families . The building housed De Graeff's rich art collection with works by Rembrandt , Gerard ter Borch and Gerard de Lairesses ceiling fresco Triomf der Vrede . In 1675 Andries son Cornelis de Graeff received it due to the tax burden of the father. After his death, his sister Alida de Graeff inherited the palace. Since she also died childless, she was inherited by her nephew Gerrit de Graeff and her nieces Jacoba Adriana and Alida Joanna de Graeff. In 1757, Alida's husband François de Witt came into the possession of the Huis van der Graeff. In 1800 it was sold to Johannes Retemeyer. In 1898 the RK Gymnasium moved into the building. In 1900 the De Lairesses ceiling frescoes were brought to the Peace Palace in The Hague . In 2008 the two fashion designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, who operate as Viktor & Rolf , took over the palace.
