Hum (Korčula)

The Hum is a mountain in the west of the island of Korčula in the Croatian Adriatic .

With a height of 376  m above sea level. A. it is the dominant mountain on the western end of the island of Korčula. The Hum is located south of the deeply cutting bay Zaliv Vela Luka , at the eastern end of which is the village of Vela Luka . A paved road or footpath leads up from Vela Luka to the hill, which is wooded on its slopes or covered with macchia .

On the highest point of the mountain are the ruins of a fortress ("Forteca"), which was built during the rule of Austria-Hungary in the 19th century and is only preserved in fragments today. From the viewing platform of the ruin , where at least in earlier years there was also a forest fire observation station, the view extends over the bay of Vela Luka and large parts of the island to the Dalmatian mainland when the weather is clear .
