The Humboldteiche is a natural monument in the Berlin district of Tegel in the Reinickendorf district .
history
The Humboldteiche is a pedunculate oak that is around 400 to 500 years old . It is near Tegel Castle in the castle park at 40 m above sea level. NN . The tree has a trunk circumference of 7.80 meters, a waist circumference of 7.22 meters, a crown diameter of 18 meters and a height of 29 meters. The Humboldteiche was declared a natural monument in 1939. According to the ordinance on the protection of natural monuments in Berlin of March 2, 1993 , it is registered as a natural monument under the number 12-25 / B (XX-25 / B) because of its rarity and for reasons of regional history.
Due to significant damage such as broken branches, a large proportion of dead branches and infestation by sulfur pores, the oak was completely renovated in 1970 for 6,000 marks . The vitality of the oak is rated as good. The Berliner Morgenpost suspects that the father of the Humboldt brothers, Alexander Georg von Humboldt , planted them. However, the assumption contradicts the estimated age of the tree.
