The Tiger Hill, Suzhou ( Chinese  虎丘 , Pinyin huqiu ; English Tiger Hill ; dt. Tiger Hill ) is a mountain in Suzhou in China . The mountain is a popular tourist destination as it is known for its natural beauty as well as its historical importance. The hill bears his name because it should look like a lurking tiger . According to another legend, a white tiger guard appeared after King Helu's funeral . The mountain is sometimes mentioned together with the Lion Mountain in Suzhou, as it is supposed to look like a seated lion . The long-lasting interest in Huqiu Shan is evident in the poems and calligraphy that can be found on the stones of the mountain.

The special places on the mountain include:

  • The Sword Trial Rock: a rock that is said to have been split in two by a sword of exceptional sharpness.
  • The source of humility and sincerity: the source is said to have appeared when an exhausted monk carried water up the mountain.
  • The Yunyan Temple Pagoda: a seven-story pagoda.
  • The Sword Pond: a small rectangular pond under which a treasure of 3000 swords is said to lie. The foundation of the pagoda prevents further investigation here.
  • The Lu Yu Source: a source that the author Lu Yu is credited with the first book on tea wrote
  • The Thousand People Rock ( Chinese  千人 石 , Pinyin qiān rén shí )

history

According to historical tradition, the Wu King Helü is buried in the mountain that was previously called The Mountain Rising from the Sea . According to legend, three days after the funeral, a white tiger that lived on the mountain appeared.

The mountain is over 30 meters high and is a symbol of historical Suzhou.
