Husaby Church

Husaby is a parish in the Swedish municipality of Götene . It is located about 15 kilometers northeast of the city of Lidköping and has 433 inhabitants (2006).

Husaby is one of the centers of Christianization in Sweden , as legend has it that the Swedish King Olof Skötkonung was baptized there around the year 1008. There is no historical evidence of this event. The Husaby church was the first cathedral in Sweden. Not far from the church are the St. Sigfrids spring and the ruins of the medieval bishop's castle, which was built by Brynolf Gerlaksson around 1400 and destroyed shortly after the Reformation.

The local area is rich in prehistoric sites. In addition to a rune stone (husabysten), burial grounds and stone setting , the most extensive rock carvings in the province can be found near Lilla Flyhov , a former estate.
