Hussein Ali Mwinyi (* 23. December 1966 ) is a member of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) since 2005, member of the government of Tanzania . As a minister, he holds the office of defense and state security. Before that he was Minister of Health from 2000 to 2002. Mwinyi studied at the Marmara University in Istanbul until 1991 and then received his doctorate at the Muhimbili Hospital in Dar es Salaam . His career in party politics thus corresponds to the ideal of the CCM, which grew up primarily with improvements in social structures in the country. From 2002 to 2003 he was chairman of Amref Health Africa. From 2008 to 2010 he was Minister of Internal Affairs.

Within the party, Mwinyi occupies a leading position as a member of the party executive. In the presidential elections on October 28, 2020, he will run for the CCM as President of Zanzibar.
