Hussein Suleimani ( Arabic حسين السليماني, DMG Ḥusain as-Sulaimānī ; * January 21, 1977 ) is a Saudi Arabian soccer player and former captain of the Saudi Arabian national team .

Career

Suleimani played from 1997 for the Saudi Arabian first division club al-Ahli from Jeddah . The club won the national cup three times (1998, 2002, 2007) and in 2003 they only narrowly failed in the final for the championship against local rivals al-Ittihad . After an interlude at Neuchâtel Xamax in the 2008/09 season, Suleimani landed at al-Nasr in the Saudi capital Riyadh . There he won his first two championships in 2014 and 2015. In 2017, at the age of 40, he moved to FC Wereja Stara Sagora in Bulgaria. A year later he returned to Saudi Arabia.

Hussein Suleimani has been a fixture in the Saudi Arabian national team on the left defensive side for years . He celebrated his first success with the team at the 1996 Asian Cup and has participated in every World Cup since then (1998, 2002). At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he was in the Saudi Arabian World Cup line- up for the third time in a row . On October 11, 2006, he completed his 100th international match against Yemen in the Asian Cup qualification (5-0). This makes him the fifth player in his country to do so. After Saudi Arabia failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup, Suleimani ended his national team career. In 2014, however, he was used in two and in 2018 in four friendlies.
