Hat beech near Frauenroth
The hat beech near Frauenroth stood on the outskirts of Frauenroth , a district of Burkardroth , in the Bad Kissingen district in the Bavarian Rhön until January 2017 . The common beech ( Fagus sylvatica ) was about 50 meters east of the cemetery on the edge of the forest at about 410 meters above sea level . It had been listed as a natural monument at the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Bad Kissingen district with the number 672-N / 030 and the name Hutbuche since March 24, 1971 and was owned by the municipality. The hat beech festival , known far beyond the town's borders, takes place under the hat beech on the first Sunday in August .
After a thick branch broke off in July 2009, an infestation of oyster mushrooms , fire sponges and honey mushrooms was found on the tree ; Experts suspect that the trunk is hollowed out. Therefore, the existing canopy protection was extended by two triangular connections, which should prevent the tree from breaking apart. The beech was provided with a forest protection fence because of the risk of further branches breaking. In May 2012, the forest protection fence was replaced by a wooden fence.
description
The beech tree had a triplet shape with three core growths that had grown together. This growth form was probably due to the fact that in the Rhön three plants used to be put together. Animals mostly ate the outer ones off and the lead shoot in the middle had a better chance of getting through. All three shoots of this beech had survived and were fused together in the core root area. In 1993 several picnic benches and tables were set up in the beech eaves area; an area around eight meters in diameter around the trunk area was graveled. In the spring of 1997, the large crown of the beech was provided with a crown safety device consisting of several safety anchors. On May 28, 1998, a strong branch near the ground broke out. The open fracture site was treated; the otherwise perfectly harmonious crown had an indentation on this side.
The age of the beech was given as around 350 years. Another source put the beech tree around 250 years old. At a height of about one meter, the three parts of the trunk that had grown together dissolved into individual trunks that rose at an angle. In 2008 they had a total circumference of 4.00, 3.11 and 2.62 meters at the point of the smallest diameter. In 1990 the entire trunk was 1.3 meters high and 6.80 meters in circumference. In 1992 the circumference at the point of the smallest diameter was 6.32 and in 2010 7.04 meters. At a height of one meter, the trunk had a circumference of 7.17 meters in 2010. The crown was about 23 meters high and 26 meters in diameter.
On January 13, 2017, the hat beech was uprooted, possibly because of the storm "Egon" which was moving over Bavaria.
