Hutten oak

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hutteneiche is an oak in Vaihingen , a district of the Baden-Württemberg state capital Stuttgart . The oak stands on the Rohrer Höhe in the Vaihinger Forest near the federal motorway 8.

With its name it is reminiscent of a story that is said to have taken place here in the 16th century: On May 7, 1515 Duke Ulrich von Württemberg stabbed the stable master Hans von Hutten to death during a hunting party . The duke, who was unhappily married, had previously wooed the wife of his stable master. On the verge of the hunt, there should have been a heated discussion between the two. Duke Ulrich finally killed his stable master with seven stitches and is said to have hung the body on the oak. In January 2013, a notice board about the Hutteneiche was set up in the Vaihinger Forest.
