Huwil

Huwil is a village on the western edge of the Ron valley in the municipality of Römerswil in the Swiss canton of Lucerne .

The group of houses is located on the eastern edge of the municipality of Römerswil near the district capital Hochdorf . The Sagebach flows through it. Her name is first attested in 1101 as Hunenweilare and in 1241 as Hunwile .

The place was the seat of the nobles of Hunwil, these appear in documents between 1230 and 1474. Huwyl Castle only appears on a map from 1665, the ruins were excavated in 1902.

The Hochdorf brickworks operated a clay pit near Huwil, which today serves as a waste disposal site.

The common family name Huwyler has its origin in Huwil; there are around 3,500 namesake.
