Huxter (Sandness)
Huxter is a hamlet on Mainland , the main island of the Shetlands . It is located around two kilometers west of Sandness , which is where the only road connection leads. Huxter is the westernmost of a series of localities, which are separated from the rest of the island by a strip of area several kilometers wide, characterized by peat soils and therefore unpopulated. A little to the southwest is a lake ( hole ), the Loch of Huxter . It drains over a small, around 300 meter long stream to the north and west past the place into the transition area between the North Atlantic and the Sound of Papa . The structural remains of three watermills from the late 19th century lie on the bank . They are, as well as the associated ridges and a small dam , as Listed Building expelled category B and thus are listed buildings.
