Hyūganatsu

The Hyūganatsu ( Japanese 日 向 夏 ) is a citrus plant ( citrus ). Hyūga is the old province name of today's Miyazaki Prefecture (on the island of Kyūshū , Japan ). Due to the subtropical climate of Kyūshū, Hyūganatsu thrive there particularly well. The fruit is medium-sized and rounded to slightly oblong-oval in shape, and is light yellow in color when ripe. The inside is juicy and has a sweet taste, but it also contains seeds.

It probably originated as a random seedling from the grapefruit ( Citrus maxima ) and probably the mandarin ( Citrus reticulata ). The scientific name of such a hybrid is Citrus × aurantium , a synonym is Citrus tamurana hort. ex Tanaka .
