Hyles salangensis is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of moth (Sphingidae).
features
The moths have a wingspan of 55 to 70 millimeters. They look like a dark-colored hybrid between the milkweed hawk ( Hyles euphorbiae ) and the sea buckthorn hawk ( Hyles hippophaes ), but the number of animals with the same appearance collected over many years suggests that this is a valid species. Some individuals may look similar to Hyles euphorbiae robertsi .
Occurrence and way of life
The species is known from the Salang Pass in Afghanistan and the surrounding mountains. There, Hyles salangensis flies between 2000 and 2700 meters above sea level in early July. Little is known about the pre-imaginal stages, nor about the way of life or any parasitoids .
