In medicine is meant by hypochromic s red blood cells , red blood cells, the hemoglobin content (in the laboratory by the acronym MCH called - prevail in hypochromia is also the hemoglobin concentration MCHC ) compared to the normal case is lowered. This can e.g. B. be the case as a result of iron deficiency disease or some form of thalassemia . Accordingly, the color of the erythrocytes is less reddish than usual ( hypochromia ; from the ancient Greek prefix ὑπό- hypo- "under" and ancient Greek χρῶμα chroma for "color", "coloring"). The condition is also known as hypochromic anemia and is often associated with microcytic anemia .
