Hyrox has existed since 2017 and will pass through nine cities across Germany in the 2018/19 season. 750 participants started at the first event in April 2018 in Hamburg.

Rules, design

The competition takes place as an indoor competition in large halls and consists of a combination of track and field and equipment-oriented, athletic sports exercises, such as those mainly carried out in fitness centers . The concept aims at a mixture of grassroots and top-class sport and does not differentiate between professionals and amateurs , between beginners and advanced; the organizers therefore also speak of a "everyone's event".

It is a fitness competition for women and men, classified according to gender and age group. Only the time that you need for the course , which consists of strength , endurance and running units, counts . In total, the participants have to run 8 × 1000 meters, after each section of the run comes the so-called "Roxzone", in which the eight workout stations are completed one after the other . While the running track is completed on the outdoor lanes, the fitness equipment is in the indoor areas. Participation as a duo or in a team is possible.

The competition lasts between 70 and 120 minutes, with waves starting in each case to avoid traffic jams at the equipment stations.

The organizer charges participation fees.

Organizers, founders

The event sport was launched in 2017 by the Hamburg entrepreneur Christian Toetzke (CEO Upsolute Event), who launched the cycling event Cyclassics Hamburg in 1995/96 and the Hamburg Triathlon in 2002.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist in hockey , Moritz Fürste from Hamburg , and the athlete trainer of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) , Mintra Mattison, are active as sports advisors .
