Applications
In gynecology , hysteroscopy is used for diagnosis and, as operative hysteroscopy, also for therapy:
- hysteroscopy supports the search for the cause for circulatory disorders and abnormal findings in the ultrasound examination, if, for example, between a lying in the uterine fibroid, a polyp, a endometrial cancer or in the cervical canal located cervical distinction must be made, thereby the process is often in addition to curettage used.
- For operations in the uterus, somewhat thicker hysteroscopes, resectoscopes and another, non-conductive irrigation solution are used. Myomas and polyps can be removed from the uterine cavity . Removal of the uterine lining can also be attempted in this way to treat long and heavy menstrual periods (endometrial ablation). High-frequency electricity is used to stop bleeding. In hysteroscopy, a tissue sample is not taken “blindly” , but performed under visual control.
