I-DEAS ( I ntegrated D esign and E ngineering A nalysis S oftware ) is a commercial CAD software for 3D design, originally by the company Structural Dynamics Research Corporation has been developed (SDRC). SDRC was taken over by Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in 2001 and merged with Unigraphics Solutions, a competitor acquired by EDS at the same time. The CAD product Unigraphics from Unigraphics Solutions and the CAD software I-DEAS developed by SDRC will be transferred to the joint new CAD program NX . At the moment (March 2007) I-DEAS is still marketed under the name I-DEAS (NX Series). EDS later sold Unigraphics to a private equity consortium as UGS Corporation . The Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) division (current name: Siemens PLM Software) bought UGS for 3.5 billion US dollars (around 2.7 billion euros) in early 2007.

I-DEAS was used together with other programs as part of a software package for group-wide product development and construction within the automotive industry. I-DEAS supports parametric construction.

I-DEAS has a modular structure. The more than 30 different modules from the areas of Digital Product Design (including Master Modeler, Master Drafting, Master Surfacing, Master Assembly, Viewer and Converter), Digital Manufacturing and Digital Simulation can be installed, licensed and used individually. However, the common database, the so-called team directory, is accessed from each program module. In a master model, the individual parts stored in the team directory in different versions can be combined to form an overall model of the part to be constructed.
