Structural Dynamics Research Corporation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Structural Dynamics Research Corporation ( SDRC ) was an American manufacturer of MCAE (Mechanical CAD ) and PLM ( Product Lifecycle Management ) software . It now belongs to Siemens PLM formerly UGS Corporation .

SDRC was founded in 1967 by engineers and led by Jason R. Lemon of the University of Cincinnati . SDRC was a consulting company for structural dynamics , or more precisely for the vibration of machine parts. US Steel was the first customer and one of the first investors until they sold their stake in General Electric in the early 1980s .

In order to facilitate the consultation, SDRC wrote a software for the simulation and prediction of vibrations. Various companies then asked if they could get the rights to use this software, which led SDRC to enter the software market. In the 1970s SDRC was involved in finite elements and engineering, and during the 1980s and 1990s SDRC became a major design and analysis company for 3D models. Lemon from SDRC was known worldwide in the 1970s as one of the first to coined the term MCAE for mechanical computer-aided engineering . Lemon left SDRC in 1982 to re-establish his own company, International TechneGroup Incorporated , which was primarily concerned with the early use of CAE in development to influence product design, a method now known as CP / PD ( Concurrent Product and Process Development) is known.

In addition to various other technologies, SDRC has done pioneering work in the area of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in particular and, with the software product Metaphase, which was developed in a joint venture with Control Data but is wholly owned by SDRC, one of the first products for presented this area.

SDRC was acquired by EDS in 2001 as part of its MCAD / PLM software division for $ 950 million and later sold to UGS Corporation , of which it is still a part today.

Products

I-DEAS was SDRC's CAD software solution . When SDRC was taken over by EDS in 2001, it was decided to merge the software products Unigraphics and I-DEAS in one product NX . Metaphase was SDRC's product lifecycle management product. It was specially designed for the management of CAD data. Metaphase is now marketed by Siemens PLM under the product name Teamcenter Enterprise.
