The IDEA League is a strategic alliance of five leading technical universities in Europe .

One of the main goals of the IDEA League is to maintain Europe's position at the forefront of technology and science. This is to be achieved through the cooperation of the best institutions in Europe.

The IDEA League was founded on October 6, 1999, when a letter of intent was signed between the four founding members. The name IDEA League is made up of the names of the four founding members. The founding members at that time were Imperial College London ( Great Britain ), TU Delft ( Netherlands ), ETH Zurich ( Switzerland ) and RWTH Aachen from Germany .

In 2006 ParisTech ( France ) joined the IDEA League as the fifth member. In December 2012, however, the Imperial College left the IDEA League. ParisTech also left the network at the end of 2013 for restructuring reasons. At the beginning of 2014, Chalmers University of Applied Sciences from Gothenburg, Sweden , joined as a fourth member . In March 2016, the Milan Polytechnic joined the IDEA League.

The presidency of the IDEA League changes every two years between the presidents or rectors of the partner universities. For the 2016–2018 cycle, Stefan Bengtsson from Chalmers University of Technology held the office of president.
