The ropeway Gardens of the World - Berlin, which was built for the International Garden Exhibition 2017 and was named IGA-Seilbahn for the duration of the exhibition , is a monocable gondola of Leitner AG in the Berlin district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf . Leitner AG took on the cost of building the railway of around 14 million euros and has been operating it ever since. The cable car should continue to operate until at least 2020.

History and description

The gondola , which was built from March to September 2016 and opened on April 13, 2017, is 1.5 kilometers long and takes a five-minute journey from the Kienbergpark valley station ( 43.2  m above sea  level ) to the Kienberg underground station (Gardens of the World) Via the Wolkenhain middle station ( 102.2  m above sea  level ) to the top station of the Gardens of the World ( 63.2  m above sea  level ) on Blumberger Damm , near the entrance there. The system can transport 3,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with 64 cabins each able to accommodate ten people. As a special attraction, six of the cabins have a glass floor. Some cabins have no seats and are therefore designed for the transport of bicycles, wheelchairs and the like. The cabins are garaged in the two end stations and in a hall at the Gardens of the World station - Blumberger Damm, this hall also houses the exhibition "Climbing Gardens of the World"

During the IGA, over three million cable car rides were completed, the usage fee of which was included in the entrance fee of 20 euros.

The seven steel lattice masts hold a wire rope that allows the user to float an average of 30 meters above the park landscape. The maximum speed is 6 m / s.

After the temporary cessation of operations with the end of the garden show on October 15, 2017, it was resumed on December 1. The cable car is to continue to operate for an initial three years with the option of an extension. The operation is carried out by the Leitner Seilbahn Berlin GmbH in coordination with Berlin's own company Grün Berlin . The regular fare for the cable car for adults is 6.50 euros. There are also monthly tickets and combination tickets with the natural bobsleigh run on the Kienberg.
