The IND Brooklyn – Queens Crosstown Line , IND Crosstown Line or Crosstown for short, is a subway line in New York City , USA . It connects the borough of Long Island City in the borough of Queens with downtown Brooklyn and is only served by the G (G service) line. The Crosstown runs east of the East River and is thus the only trunk route of the New York subway that does not run through Manhattan . Their identification color is light green, which is why the G line is the only New York subway line that has this color.

The Crosstown was planned since 1922 and finally built as part of the Independent Subway and opened in two stages between 1933 and 1937. The route is 7.1 miles (11.42 kilometers) long, has 13 stations, and is entirely underground. Notable neighborhoods traversed are Greenpoint (Brooklyn) , Williamsburg and Clinton Hill .
