The INS Talwar is a frigate of the Indian Navy and the first ship and namesake of the Talwar class .

On November 19, 2008, the Indian frigate INS Tabar (Kriwak-IV) destroyed a “pirate mothership” off the coast of Somalia after its crew refused to examine it and opened fire on the warship. The supposed pirate mothership later turned out to be a Thai fishing cutter hijacked by the pirates. On May 28, 2009, they prevented pirates from attempting to board the freighter “Maud”, in which two pirates were shot at by the crew of the on-board helicopter while they were trying to climb the ship's side.
