IP-COM-PT ( I nternet- P rotocol based Kom cations services in ö public V ransport) was a German standardization project for communication architecture in public transport. In addition, models and communication services for passenger mobile devices should be developed.

description

The research and standardization project IP-KOM-ÖV, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, has developed concepts and architectures for the efficient, standardized provision of individual passenger information and converted them into VDV publications. Three main aspects of passenger information are specifically highlighted.

On the one hand, the vehicle architecture has been replaced by a modern, service-based communication platform based on the Internet protocol, which, in addition to a high degree of flexibility for the operator, also provides significantly improved information for the passenger. With this technology, vehicles will in future be able to send or receive public transport information directly to the customer's smartphone, in addition to the usual multimedia applications. This should make the passenger feel even safer and more comfortable in public transport.

The second field of work dealt with the connection of the passengers' mobile devices. With the approach of being able to call up supra-regional information via standardized interfaces, a modular architecture was also created here that not only enables active push messages but also self-learning semantic data processing. Various applications for smartphones can be supplied with high-quality public transport information.

In the last field of work, an information platform was defined, which in turn is modular and service-based. With the help of this, supra-regional information is only possible. This background system also prepares all data for the mobile customer terminals and supplies them with the required current and individual real-time information.

The project was initiated by the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) together with industry, transport companies and science. The VDV acted as the coordinator of the project. This was funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology .

Results

The results of this research and standardization project have been incorporated into VDV publications. These are not standards in the original sense, but have a normative character in that they legally correspond to the "state of the art" and are used for this purpose. The following works can be obtained free of charge from the publisher:

  • VDV 301-1 IBIS-IP system architecture
  • VDV 301-2 IBIS-IP interface specification v1.0
  • VDV 430 Mobile customer information in public transport - system architecture
  • VDV 431-1 EKAP system architecture
  • VDV 431-2 EKAP interface description
