The IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries is a global trade and standardization organization based in Bannockburn , Illinois , USA, which deals with the issues of electronics manufacturing . The field of activity includes, among other things, the publication of industry standards and criteria for evaluating various goods in the electrical and electronics industry, such as the requirements for printed circuit boards , chip housings and soldering in electronics .

The association was founded in 1957 under the name Institute for Printed Circuits , from which the abbreviation IPC is derived. Due to the wide range of activities, the name was changed to Institute for Interconnecting and Packaging Electronic Circuit and in 1999 to the now common short name IPC . The trading organization includes more than 3,700 member companies worldwide and has offices in the USA, Sweden, Russia and China. An essential industry standard, which is binding for many manufacturers in the field of electronics production, is the IPC-A-610 , Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies (German acceptance criteria for electronic assemblies ).
