Infect ambulance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The infection ambulance - also known as an infection ambulance - is used to transport highly infectious or highly contagious people. It is commonly abbreviated as I-RTW , IRTW , RTW-I or Infekt-RTW . The only difference to the ambulance (RTW) is that the structure of the patient area is completely sealed off from the outside world and from the driver's cab . Contact with the driver is only possible via an intercom . Infectious ambulances should therefore also comply with DIN EN 1789 Type C. The box body is usually lined with stainless steel to enable easier disinfection . There are various filters , catalysts or a system for thermal disinfection in the supply and exhaust air routes of the patient room in order to prevent the transmission of pathogens to the environment via the air. Overpressure protective suits are available in the Infekt ambulance for the crew caring for the patient. Since there may not be complete equipment on an Infekt ambulance and this almost always has a longer travel time than a normal ambulance, an ambulance with full equipment is also alerted every time it is deployed. In some cases, the tasks of an infection ambulance are taken over by special ambulances, which also function as heavy-duty ambulances or intensive care vehicles .
