I Hope is a song by British singer Rebecca Ferguson . The song was released in the UK on December 1, 2013 as the main single of their second studio album , Freedom .

background

In November 2012, Ferguson said that after her US tour, early in 2013, she would return to the studio to write a song for her second album, which was slated for later that year. Ferguson described her own album, Freedom , as "more powerful and snappy than its predecessor" . In July 2013, the singer posted a series of tweets on Twitter about her pride in her now-completed album and that the album was "a challenge to produce" . She also tweeted that she wrote some songs about her children. Meanwhile, Ferguson settled a dispute with her management Modest! Management , after calling it " disgusting " as it temporarily cut off contact with her children. Ferguson and her management resolved litigation over an unknown sum of money. On October 10, 2013, Ferguson announced that their single would ultimately be called "I Hope" and that the release was originally planned for November 24, a week before the official release. I Hope premiered on October 14, 2013.

Music video

The accompanying music video officially premiered on October 21, 2013. It shows Ferguson singing in an apartment while other people in various relationships represent their love and “heartbreak”.

reception

Digital Spy’s Lewis Corner awarded the song four stars out of five, adding:

“Musically, 'I Hope' represents Ferguson's predilection for a quiet soul number, but Ferguson has more fire in her stomach lyrically. (The lines) 'Cause after a time you did Realized it is not easy /' Cause after a time you did Realized you should've Believed in me "she tells her fleeting anger over a bad relationship and the forgiveness of his Neglect. Ferguson's smoky tones are tinged with pain, but endowed with renewed defiance and charting tempo in their obsession; it burns brighter than ever before. "
