Iakob Zurtaweli ( Georgian იაკობ ცურტაველი ; 5th century ) was a Georgian Orthodox priest and writer . He wrote the oldest surviving book in Georgian literature.

Between 476 and 483 he wrote the Martyrdom of Saint Shushanik (Georgian - წამებაჲ წმიდისა შუშანიკისი დედოფლისაჲ - C'amebaj c'midisa Shushanik'isi dedoplisaj ). It is a hagiographic work in pre-Christian writing tradition. The work describes the life of the Georgian princess Shushanik (Eng. Susanne ), who died because she refused to renounce Christianity . The content is based on real events. Zurtaweli was the main person's confessor and had visited her in prison for years.
