Ian C. Calderon

Ian Charles Calderon (born October 19, 1985 in Los Angeles ) is an American politician. He belongs to the Democratic Party .

Calderon, who lives east of Los Angeles in Whittier, studied political science at California State University, Long Beach and was a California surf master in his youth . He worked in marketing for a sporting goods retailer, and later founded a sports management company. He also produced a reality TV show .

Ian's father, Charles Calderon, was a California MP for many years, as did Ian's uncle Ronald and Thomas Calderon . Ian Calderon ran for a seat in the California State Assembly for the first time in the 2012 elections . In the Democratic Party's primary elections , he prevailed by just under one percentage point against Rudy Bermudez , and Calderon clearly won the actual election in November with 63.5% of the vote. When he was sworn in, he was the youngest member of the 80-member House of Representatives at the age of 27.

In the 2014 House of Representatives elections, Calderon narrowly defended his constituency with 51.5% against Republican challenger Rita Topalian .

Ian Calderon chairs the Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media .
