Siegfried Pollack (born June 8, 1929 in Forst in Niederlausitz ; † February 20, 2018 ) was a German art teacher as well as metal and graphic designer and painter.

Life

In 1939, Pollack's family moved to Bremen due to changes in his father's job . After the Second World War , Siegfried completed a one-year traineeship in a printing company in Bremen. Between 1946 and 1948 he studied drawing at the Bremen Art School . At the same time he worked as a draftsman and modeller for silverware at the Bremen silverware factory Wilkens & Sons . He then completed a two-semester course in the sculpture class.

He completed an apprenticeship as a silversmith and modeller from 1948 to 1949 at the State Drawing Academy in Hanau - technical school for the precious metal trade, in order to deepen his knowledge in the field of metal design. In doing so, he acquired fundamental knowledge and skills in goldsmithing and enamel technology, in chasing as well as modeling and designing silverware. After completing this training, he returned to Bremen, where he worked as a draftsman and modeller for cutlery at the Bremen silverware factory until 1952.

Then he decided to study at the school for arts and crafts in Saarbrücken . He took the basic apprenticeship with Boris Kleint and Oskar Holweck and attended the graphics class with Hannes Neuner . At the beginning of his studies he worked temporarily as a construction worker, carried out metal and graphic work and worked in the drawing office of the Saarbrücker Zeitung . In 1953 he set up his studio in Saarbrücken and worked as a freelance graphic and metal designer. Numerous individual design works were created for private and public spaces.

He also carried out larger orders in the sacred space, such as the copper cross at the cemetery entrance in Wadgassen in 1963 and the doors of the Catholic Church of St. Josef in Elm-Sprengen in 1965 . In 1969 he made the chain of office using enamel cell melting technology for the Lord Mayor of the district town of Saarlouis . From 1961 to 1970, Pollack was a board member and chairman of the Saarland Arts and Crafts Working Group and organized teacher training courses in the field of arts and crafts techniques and visual design. Since the 1960s he completed additional training for music and technical teachers and joined the Saarland school service in 1967. Until 1991 he worked as an art teacher at the State Realgymnasium Dillingen / Saar (today Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium). Between 1973 and 1975 he successfully completed a pedagogical degree for art education and work studies at the University of Education in Saarbrücken.

From 1980 to 1996 he worked at the Schwalbacher Painting School, which he directed from 1994 to 1996. Since 1981 he belongs to the artist group Untere Saar e. V., which he chaired between 1988 and 1991. Since 1988 he has been a member of the Bund Bildender Künstler and a member of the international Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists .

The intensive occupation with painting began in the 1970s. Pastel works have been created since the mid-1980s. Since the mid-1990s he has devoted himself to the technique of making artistic paper .

In 2005 he won the competition for the artistic design of the large window in the newly built administration and service center of the community of Schwalbach (Saar) (foundation stone laid in 2004, architects Huppert and Huppert, Saarbrücken). Schwalbach is depicted as a lively community with its history, traditions and social change.

Pollack lived in Schwalbach-Elm.
