Ian Jones (producer)
Ian Edward Swainson Jones (born September 22, 1931 in Newcastle , New South Wales , † August 31, 2018 in Melbourne ) was an Australian film producer , screenwriter, director and biographer.
Career
Jones had a long career on Australian television. He was known for his work as a screenwriter and director for Crawford Productions. He has helped create shows such as Homicide , Matlock Police , The Bluestone Boys and The Sullivans, as well as Against the Wind , a very successful miniseries created in collaboration with his wife, Bronwyn Binns. It deals with Australia's past.
Jones and Bronwyn Binns created a portrayal of Ned Kelly and his allies when they produced the miniseries The Last Outlaw , which was shown in 1980. He has also written books about the Kelly gang, including bestsellers Ned Kelly: A Short Life and The Fatal Friendship: Ned Kelly, Aaron Sherritt and Joe Byrne . In his work, Jones relied on decades of archival research, mainly on oral history interviews with descendants of the members of the Kelly gang. Jones also co-wrote the script for the 1970s biopic film Ned Kelly, starring Mick Jagger .
