Ian Kirkham

Ian Kirkham (born March 9, 1963 in Liverpool , England ) is a saxophonist and member of the band Simply Red . Today he is one of the world's best saxophonists.

Life

Ian Kirkham grew up in Preston (England). He took his first piano lessons at the age of five and a half. At the age of eleven he began his training on the saxophone. He played in several big bands and jazz groups, including the Spiral Axis and the Images .

In 1986, Kirkham joined the band Simply Red, where he made music for 22 years. In addition to alto , tenor and soprano saxophone , he also plays EWI ( Electronic Woodwind Instrument ), clarinet , flute and piano . He is best known for his technically complex solos , which are characterized by a warm and expressive sound.
