Ibn Qudāma al-Maqdisī

Muwaffaq ad-Dīn Abū Muhammad ʿAbdallāh ibn Ahmad ibn Qudāma al-Maqdisī ( Arabic موفق الدين أبو محمد عبد الله بن أحمد بن قدامة المقدسي, DMG Muwaffaq ad-Dīn Abū Muḥammad ʿAbdallāh b. Aḥmad b. Qudāma al-Maqdisī ; * 1147 in Jammāʿīl; † July 7, 1223 in Damascus ) was a Hanbali Islamic scholar and traditionalist.

Ibn Qudāma al-Maqdisī was born in a village near Jerusalem ( Bait al-Maqdis ). He received his religious training in Damascus. Together with his cousin ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Maqdisī, he visited Baghdad for study purposes. He stayed there for four years. He spent most of his life in Damascus. He visited Baghdad several times, made the pilgrimage and took part in the Jerusalem campaign of Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn .
