resume

Ibrahim Rojhilat was born in 1969 in the Kurdish Bazîd (Turkish: Doğubeyazıt), grew up there and graduated from high school there. In 1991 he began to work professionally with Kurdish music and shortly afterwards founded the music group Koma Rojhilat ( Kurdish for "group of the East"), whose soloist he was until the band split up. In 1997 the band released their first album entitled Ez (Kurdish for "I"). The album spread rapidly and Koma Rojhilat became one of the most important Kurdish bands of the 1990s - despite the fact that the Kurdish language and culture was strictly forbidden in Turkey at the time.

Ibrahim Rojhilat sings traditional and more modern folk songs as well as pieces from the epic singing tradition of the Dengbêj (bards).
