Icarus is an impact crater on the back of the moon and therefore cannot be directly observed from Earth. It is located west of the huge Korolev crater . The crater Daedalus is located less than 200 kilometers west and south of the smaller adds crater Amici image.

Icarus has a worn crater rim with a fairly wide inner wall. The outer wall is slightly bulged outwards in the southwest and a small crater can be seen on the southern ridge. An unusually high central mountain rises near the center of the crater floor. This towers above the crater rim, while the peaks inside the crater usually only reach half the crater depth. The rest of the crater floor is relatively flat in its eastern half and somewhat more irregular to the west.
