Gerhard Hosemann (born April 20, 1922 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † August 24, 2016 in Erlangen ) was a German communications engineer . He was professor for electrical energy supply at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen- Nürnberg .

Life

Gerhard Hosemann was the son of the surgeon and university professor of medicine Paul Gerhard Hosemann . During his studies he became a member of the Ulmia Stuttgart fraternity in 1947 . He finished his studies in communications engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart in 1948 and was awarded a Dr.-Ing. In 1951 with the dissertation “Trouble-free measurement of electrobiological voltages even with slow progress” . PhD. He then worked in the private sector, especially at BBC Mannheim.

In 1963 he was appointed full professor and director of the Institute for Electrical Energy Supply at the Technical University of Darmstadt . From 1968 he was dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and from 1973 dean of the Faculty of Electrical Power Engineering for two years. Hosemann turned down a call to the Graz University of Technology in 1970, and accepted another to the new chair for electrical power supply at the still young technical faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1975. In 1990 Hosemann retired, and until his successor was appointed he was acting head of the chair for two years.

Hosemann was married to Dietlind Hosemann, born in 1951. Natorp. The couple has two children, Regine and Werner Hosemann , medicine professor like his grandfather Paul Gerhard Hosemann.

Act

Hosemann's special technical competencies lie in the areas of energy technology and electrical safety / environmental protection. With regard to electrical safety , it should be particularly emphasized that Hosemann and Helmut Zürneck founded the VDE specialist committee “Accident Research” in 1973 . He headed this committee from 1973 to 1986, after which Zürneck took over the management until 1993. This VDE committee initially resolved to improve the interdisciplinary exchange of experience in the fields of electropathology and electrical accidents. The focus was on the questions after

  • the limit values of harmful body currents,
  • the harmfulness of strong electrical, magnetic and electromagnetic fields,
  • accidents with electrical medical devices and facilities,
  • the informative value of statistical surveys on electrical accidents,
  • the boundary conditions under which electrical accidents occur,
  • the expert investigation of electrical accidents.

The committee was renamed "Safety and Accident Research" in 1994 by Siegfried Altmann , head of the committee from 1994 to 2002. This was intended to reflect the increasing importance of risk and safety assessments.

From 1976 to 1990 Hosemann was Deputy Chairman of the "German Electrotechnical Commission (DKE)" in the VDE.

His academic students and his professional environment include numerous professors (selection): Hans-Jürgen Koglin (Saarbrücken), Hans-Jürgen Haubrich (Aachen), Gerd Balzer (Darmstadt), Helmut Zürneck (Darmstadt), Willy Geysen (Leuven in Belgium) , Gerhard Pfaff (Erlangen-Nuremberg), Wolfram Boeck (Munich), Ralf Gretsch (Erlangen-Nuremberg), Edhard David (Witten-Herdecke), Klaus Heuck (Hamburg), Gernot Funk (Hanover), Karl-Heinz Schneider (Mannheim) , Gerhard Herold (Erlangen-Nuremberg), Bernhard Arndt (Würzburg-Schweinfurt), Siegfried Altmann (Leipzig), Karl Friedrich Eichhorn (Leipzig).

Hosemann has published over 200 specialist articles as well as numerous books, many of them in English and French.
