Helmut Zürneck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helmut Zürneck (born April 14, 1936 ; † May 13, 2014 ) was a German engineer and professor of electrical engineering specializing in electrical safety .

Life

Zürneck studied and did his doctorate at the Technical University of Darmstadt . In 1972 he was appointed professor there. Until his retirement in 2001, he represented the fundamentals of electrical engineering , power converter technology and drive control in the electrical power engineering department .

Act

He is the author and co-author of numerous books and publications. In addition to his specialist fields of power converter technology and drive control , he also dealt with topics such as causes and protective measures against electrical accidents as well as an introduction to and basics of electrical engineering .

The area of electrical safety was part of Zürneck's special expertise . It is particularly outstanding that Zürneck and Gerhard Hosemann founded the VDE specialist committee "Accident Research" in 1973, which Hosemann headed from 1973 to 1986, followed by Zürneck from 1987 to 1993. This VDE committee maintained the interdisciplinary exchange of experience the fields of electropathology and electrical accidents. The focus was on the questions after

  • the limit values of harmful body currents,
  • the harmfulness of strong electrical, magnetic and electromagnetic fields,
  • accidents with electrical medical devices and facilities,
  • the informative value of statistical surveys on electrical accidents,
  • the boundary conditions under which electrical accidents occur,
  • the expert investigation of electrical accidents.

In order to meet the increasing importance of risk and safety assessments, the committee was renamed "Safety and Accident Research" in 1994 by Siegfried Altmann , head of the committee from 1994 to 2002.

Zürneck was also involved in higher education political bodies such as the convention and budget committee. From 1977 to 1979 he was Vice President of the TU Darmstadt.
