Ice World
The Ice World was so far the only ice sculpture enfestival Germany.
Similar to what happened with sand in the sister project Sand World , here the figures were carved out of large blocks of ice and snow and worked with a chainsaw and chisel. Irons were also used to glue individual attachment points. The snow and ice masses were made especially for the Ice World and brought from West Flanders to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck . According to press reports, the Ice World 2006/2007 was probably the last event of its kind in Lübeck for economic reasons. It is unclear whether there will be a new edition of the festival in the future.
Ice World 2003 - The Bible
The first Ice World took place from December 12, 2003 to February 1, 2004 in Lübeck . The venue was a thermal tent in front of the Holsten Gate with an internal temperature of −10 ° C. 35 artists from the Netherlands , Canada , the USA , Venezuela , France , Finland , Estonia , the Czech Republic and Russia worked on the ice sculptures for around 5 weeks .
Ice World 2004 - Imagination in Ice
The second Ice World officially took place from December 10, 2004 to January 23, 2005, but was extended to January 30, 2005. As part of the Ice World 2004 from December 7th to 9th, the world championship of ice artists was held for the first time in Germany. 15 national teams each with two ice sculptors competed against each other, the winner was Japan .
Ice World 2005 - Animal Kingdom
The third Ice World took place from December 9, 2005 to January 29, 2006 at the new location at the Media Docks on the Wall Peninsula on the Trave . Under the motto “Kingdom of Animals”, the forecourt of the Media Docks on the northern Wall peninsula in Lübeck's Hansahafen was transformed into a glittering winter landscape. Against the backdrop of Lübeck's old town, the Ice World offered a journey through time from the prehistoric world of dinosaurs, mammoths and saber-toothed tigers 200 million years ago to the present day. Arctic circle, jungle and underwater world - the Ice World 2005 showed the animal kingdom in all of its habitats. The astrological signs of the zodiac and constellations were also made of ice.
Ice World 2006 - Ice Age2 - Now it's thawing
The 4th Ice Sculpture Festival took place from December 8, 2006 to January 28, 2007. The motto was: “Ice Age2 - Now it's thawing”.
