Media docks

Media Docks is a building in Lübeck that is located on the Wall Peninsula at the Museum Harbor directly on the banks of the Trave in the historic old town.

history

The building of today's media docks was built in 1898 as a large warehouse for the Lübeck merchants and used primarily as a granary. At this time, the Northern Wall Peninsula was expanded to become Lübeck's first modern transshipment port. During the Second World War , the building was badly damaged in 1942. Since not all floors were completely reconstructed when the warehouse was rebuilt, the building received its typical silhouette of the stepped roof layout from today's perspective. When the port of Lübeck was relocated, the buildings were only used as general warehouses with no specific port connection. In 1993 the historic warehouse was officially registered as a monument.

modification

In 2001/02 the complete conversion of the historic warehouse into today's media docks was completed. The facade was refurbished and was largely preserved. The front office area was extended by three floors with a modern glass / steel structure. Modern office and conference space was created inside.

use

44 companies with over 460 jobs have settled in the corporate park and start-up center of media docks. In addition to the regional studio of the North German Broadcasting Corporation, there are several training companies that offer training and further education specifically in the areas of new media. The International School of New Media was closed in 2012. In addition, the business & conference center is a modern conference center in the media docks, with eleven modern rooms for 10 to 500 people.
