The Sand World was a sand sculpture festival in Germany.

It took place for the first time from July 12th to September 1st, 2002 in Lübeck-Travemünde on the Priwall . On an area of around 10,000 square meters, 450,000 visitors viewed the sculptures on the Priwall beach on the Bay of Lübeck .

Even when crossing the Trave with the passenger ferry , one could see the sculptures up to ten meters high. The team comprised around 75 sculptors who worked the sand figures from the malls from top to bottom. Various tools were used, from paintbrushes to trowels. The sand did not come from the Baltic Sea , as the grains are too round here, but from the Meuse .

Sand World 2007 was the last of its kind. The number of visitors - not least due to the rainy summer - was around 140,000, well below expectations. The sister project Ice World , in which sculptures were built out of ice, also failed to reach the target number of visitors in 2006/2007 and has therefore not taken place since then.
