I know what I want is a song by the Austrian singer Udo Jürgens from 1979. The song sums up the ideal of romantic love. The song was released in October 1979 by Ariola Records in Germany as a single from his album Udo '80 . The song is 5:03 minutes long.

content

The lyrics are an inner monologue in which he addresses his feelings shortly after saying goodbye to his girlfriend. The title "I know what I want" can be understood in such a way that at this moment he becomes aware of his strong feelings. He knows that he loves her and doesn't want to leave her anymore. According to Wolfgang Buschlinger, the song summarizes like no other the great ideals of romantic love defined by the sociologist Peter Fuchs: a) The other is highly relevant for one personally ('I want you completely and always around me'), b) We both are one ('That we are like one thought, one body'), c) I love everything about you ('Whatever you do, forgive and understand'), d) I open myself completely to you expect the same from you ('no thought is left unsaid, nothing is postponed'), e) the exclusivity of the other ('the illusion that you live only for me, I need that'), f) the union in sexuality ( 'And do everything you can do so for two'), g) Love is unreasonable and an expression of true freedom ('And believe, nowhere is an end in sight, no not for us',' Like a gypsy through that The world goes with you, [...] until our senses pass away ').
