Ida Kropff-Federath , maiden name Ida Brüning (born June 10, 1839 in Brakel , † June 1, 1918 in Olsberg ), was the last sole owner of the Olsberger Hütte .

Life

She came from the Brüning family and was a relative of the later Chancellor Heinrich Brüning . In 1863 she married the owner of the Olsberger Hütte Caspar Engelbert Friedrich Kropff. The marriage resulted in a son who died shortly after birth. After the death of her husband in 1888, she became the sole owner of the plant as well as the Altenbekener Eisenwerke and considerable forest and property. In order to avoid a division of the property, she found possible relatives with inheritance rights. She ran the company until her death.

In 1891 she married the district administrator of the Brilon district, Hans Carl Federath . Before the marriage he had to waive the inheritance of the hut. Through this connection, Ida Kropff-Federath gained contacts with leading figures in society. Together with her husband, she was repeatedly a guest at Otto von Bismarck's . Prince Max von Baden and the poet Julius Stinde were guests in Olsberg .

She made the building land available for the new construction of the St. Nicholas Church and was socially committed. She traveled a lot, including visiting Egypt. The marriage with her second husband remained childless.

After the death of her second husband in 1914, she brought his fortune into a foundation planned for the time after her death. This should take in orphans and train them. In addition, employees in need and their families should be supported in the event of illness. An infirmary was to be set up in Altenbeken, hungry people were to be fed in the lodging house and students of theology were to be supported.

After her death, the Kropff-Federath Foundation was established. This still exists today and runs a children's home. The hut was also temporarily transferred to the foundation and was administered by the diocese of Paderborn until 1920, before the hut was taken over by Ida's relatives from the Everken, Hövener and Brüning families and converted into a GmbH.
