from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ida Longespée († between 1266 and 1269) was an Anglo-Norman noblewoman.

Ida de Longespée was a younger daughter of William Longespée, 3rd Earl of Salisbury, and his wife Ela . Through her father she was a granddaughter of King Henry II. In her first marriage she was married to Walter FitzRobert , and according to other information to Ralph de Somery . From her marriage to Ralph de Somery, after his death, she received the estate of Newport Pagnell as a Wittum , which she was entitled to for life. The right of patronage over the priory of Newport Pagnell was connected to the estate . In her second marriage, Ida married William de Beauchamp , an influential baron from Bedfordshire . With him she led a violent conflict with the Priory of Newnham from 1247 over the right to confirm the prior. After the death of her husband in 1260, she led a feud against Simon of Pattishall during the Second War of the Barons and had his Little Crawley estate in Buckinghamshire plundered.

With her second husband William de Beauchamp, Ida had at least two daughters who became her heiresses.

  • Ela de Beauchamp ⚭ Baldwin Wake
  • Beatrice de Beauchamp
    • ⚭ Thomas fitz Otto
    • ⚭ William de Munchensi, of Edwardstone, Suffolk.

The Newport Pagnell estate returned to the Somery family after her death.
