Idemitsu Art Museum
The Idemitsu Museum of Arts ( Japanese 出光美術館 , Idemitsu Bijutsukan ) is a private museum of Fine Arts in Marunouchi in the district of Chiyoda in Tokyo .
history
The Idemitsu Museum goes back to the entrepreneur Idemitsu Sazō (1885–1981), who was interested in art at an early age. In 1966 he made his collection available to the public on the 9th floor of the Teikoku Gekijō (English Imperial Theater ), which also houses the company's headquarters. From the museum lobby above you can see the park in front of the Imperial Palace .
In 2000, a branch museum ( 33 ° 56 ′ 56 ″ N , 130 ° 57 ′ 55 ″ E ) was opened in Moji (since 1963 a district of Kitakyushu ). It's the city Idemitsu came from.
The collection
In addition to two national treasures, the collection contains numerous important cultural assets .
- The Zen priest Sengai (1750–1837) is represented with a collection of more than 1000 objects. Underneath is the well-known ink picture (unsigned, without title) "Circle - Square - Triangle", which is interpreted as a representation of space.
