The Teikoku Gekijō ( Japanese 帝国 劇場 , German "Reichstheater", English Imperial Theater , short: Teigeki) is the theater in Japan for musicals and drama . It is managed by the Japanese film studio Tōhō . It also houses the Idemitsu Art Museum , restaurants and offices. The theater is located in the district of Marunouchi in Tokyo .
history
In March 1911, the theater was first built in the western style. The architect was Tamisuke Yokogawa, who also designed the Mitsukoshi shopping center .
The theater collapsed on September 1, 1923 during the Great Kanto earthquake . It was rebuilt in 1924. For financial reasons it was demolished in 1964 and later replaced in the same place by a new building designed by the architect Yoshirō Taniguchi .
