The  Teikoku Gekijō ( Japanese 帝国 劇場 , German "Reichstheater", English Imperial Theater , short: Teigeki) is the theater in  Japan  for  musicals  and  drama . It is managed by the Japanese film studio  Tōhō  . It also houses the  Idemitsu Art Museum , restaurants and offices. The theater is located in the district of  Marunouchi in  Tokyo .  

history

In March 1911, the theater was first built in the western style. The architect was Tamisuke Yokogawa, who also designed the  Mitsukoshi shopping center

The theater collapsed on September 1, 1923 during the  Great Kanto earthquake  . It was rebuilt in 1924. For financial reasons it was demolished in 1964 and later replaced in the same place by a  new building designed by the architect Yoshirō Taniguchi
